BUILDING BRIDGES

Building bridges: to improve relationships between people who are very different. Being friends and getting to know them.

Bridges fascinate me. I love old bridges, stone bridges, old-fashioned wooden bridges, covered bridges, footpath bridges. I love the uniqueness of the designs and the creativity of the designer.

Bridges terrify me. The height and length of bridges can be quite intimidating. Modern structures that are hundreds of feet above water or canyons can make me have anxiety and scrunching down in my seat.

However, building bridges with people I’ve never met before or with people I haven’t seen for a while is something that I enjoy doing. When I meet new friends, I am priveleged to be introduced to a glimpse of their lives…their talents, abilities, different upbringing, thoughts, values, different communities, churches, and schooling.

When I get to meet new people, whether scheduled or impromptu, I try to already prepare myself for a conversation to build a bridge. A bridge from my heart to theirs. A bridge from God’s heart to theirs. Each of us part of an intricately designed bridge that connects our lives together.

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 1 Peter 3:8
