Imitate well…Follow the Son

Did you know that we are to imitate Christ? I first learned about this during a Kid’s Club that I attended as a child. The speaker was talking about the silversmith who refines silver by removing the impurities. When the silver is refined completely, the silversmith can see himself in the reflection of the pure silver.
In the same way, when we allow God to eliminate the dross (sin) from our lives, He is clearly reflected in us. We practice “the art of becoming” more like Him as His ambassadors in our homes, our churches, and our communities. Others can see Christ reflected in our actions and words.
Reflecting Christ in the home allows me to love and respect my husband, care and pray for my children, learn how to be the best mother-in-law I can be to my children-in-law.
Reflecting Christ in my church allows me to greet the newcomer and extend an invitation, to be gracious to those in authority, rejoice with those who serve in areas that I would like to serve in but remember that we all function as the body of Christ.
Reflecting Christ in my community means that when I wear the church logo on my clothes or bumper sticker on my car I represent well. It means that I control my road rage, irritation at only one check-out clerk open, and am patient with the new waitress who is trying to service a room full of hungry people.
When others look at me, may I reflect Christ well.
“Fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal. Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others. Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:2-5
