Just Let Him Lead

The Dance Lesson

My husband, Dave and I decided to step outside the box and fulfill a bucket list dream of mine. Dancing. Yep, you got it. I was raised extremely conservatively, and never was allowed or learned how to dance. My recent surge of desire in this area came about as I’ve begun to master a Step Class at my local gym and we added some dance steps to our workout.

So when I approached my husband, he hesitantly, but happily agreed to “step out” with me in taking dance lessons. Within in the first 20 minutes, I realized that this was actually a challenging experience and became a little frustrated with Dave for not catching on to the steps as quickly as I did. As an older, more seasoned dance instructor, Aimee, gently pushed Dave to the side, she held me in the first basic step pose and looked me square in the eye and said, “First of all, Amy Jo, you are going to have to let your husband lead.”

The Good Shepherd Leads

In that sweet honest, but slightly painful moment, God spoke to my heart. I’ve been a leader in our marriage because of circumstances with Dave’s schooling and crazy work schedule. We both had become comfortable with me leading in many areas, but as the Holy Spirit began to convict me of taking the lead and leaving Dave behind.

Do you ever find yourself trying to lead God or worse yet, leaving God behind in your decision making and life choices? I’m reminded of the Psalmist, King David, as he wrote Psalm 23. As one of God’s sheep, the Good Shepherd leads us. He leads us beside still waters, when the storms of life are raging. He leads us beside quiet waters, when the busyness and voices of this world deafen us.

As you go through your day today, remember to allow Just Let God Lead you…in the quietness…in the stillness…by the calm waters of His Living Water.

“The LORD is my shepherd, there is nothing I lack. He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.” Psalm 23:1-2
