Look Up!
Just one one more piece of negative news: a friend battling Covid for his very life, the fires that rage on the West coast, the hurricane that devastates the southern states, political unrest, racial tensions, hybrid school planning…all of these threaten to undermine my peace. However, God provides glimpses of His faithful love through the artistry of His creation.
Whatever storm or battle we are facing during this challenging day, week, month or year, the psalmist reminds us that we don’t have to let the billowing waterfalls overwhelm us. We can remember the many times that God has proven Himself faithful in our lives.
Even when sleep eludes us as we continue to carry the weight of our anxiety into the night hours, may our hearts remember the music that God has placed there and allow it to soothe our soul as the waterfall of this world’s problems eventually even out into the peacefulness of a babbling brook. May we be like the psalmist today and focus on God’s faithful love and constant care, ever before Him in prayer.
I am deeply depressed;
therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls;
all Your breakers and Your billows have swept over me.
The Lord will send His faithful love by day;
His song will be with me in the night—a prayer to the God of my life.
Psalm 42:6-8
