Praise God…First
Recently, at our Connection Group, we had enjoyed a time of Bible study and were moving into our prayer time. As we went around the room sharing, I was amazed at how many times individuals would start their requests by saying, “First of all, I want to thank all of you…” or “First, let me praise God for…”
It was convicting as I find myself approaching prayer with requests first and thanks or praise near the end. I realize that in my heart, my prayer was somewhat backward. We are told to “give thanks to the LORD” as we call on His name, proclaiming His work and deeds so that others will see and be encouraged.
This morning, I awoke to a vibrant sunrise, I started praising God for His wondrous creation. Sitting down to study my Bible, I thanked Him for His written Word. Eating breakfast, I graciously acknowledged His provision. Taking a hot shower and dressing in clean clothes, I was humbled that God has blessed our lives with so much bounty.
I wonder if our outlook into the day would change if rather than coming with our constant requests, we spent our time being thankful to God for all that He has done in our lives. “Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul…”
