ADVENT

We enter the time of Advent. The time of the arrival has come.
Have you ever been in a place of great expectation? Anticipating the arrival of someone or something?
Last week, I was fluctuating between anticipation and excitement as I waited for my daughters and sons-in-law to arrive for a long Thanksgiving weekend. Because of our crazy schedules, we also celebrated our family Christmas during this jam-packed weekend.
So following their progress on Life 360, I knew when just the right moment would be to run outside and greet them as they pulled into our driveway. Weeks of preparation and anticipation were fulfilled as they each stepped out of the vehicle and hugged Dave and me with great enthusiasm.
I can only imagine what Mary was experiencing as she traveled to her Aunt Elizabeth’s house. Upon entering the door, she noticed the visible change that had been made in her aged aunt…now six months pregnant. What joy and delight it was for Elisabeth to have her dear niece offer comfort and solace during this completely unexpected pregnancy. But it wasn’t just Elizabeth who was joyful about Mary’s arrival. The babe in Elizabeth’s womb “leaped with joy inside her,” and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
“You are the most blessed of women, and your child will be blessed.” With this assuring confirmation, Mary bursts out in praise and worship of the Lord. Her “Magnificat” gives hope for the lowly and joy for those who are oppressed. Through her, God the Savior would be born, offering mercy to those who fear Him. And so she begins a time of great anticipation, a time of Advent, awaiting the birth of her son, the Savior of the World.
What are you anticipating this Advent season? A work bonus? Time off? The arrival of family or friends? Spend some time preparing your heart for the arrival of your Savior. Ask Him to show you how He will show up in your life as you wait for Him.
May be an image of text that says 'I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. Psalm 89:1 amy JO jo.wrobel amyjo.wrobel WI ro obel JO.'
